At Friends For Life, all front line programs and services are delivered by our volunteers. We are able to operate in an extremely cost-effective manner because of the help of our more than 360 volunteers. Volunteers create a unique environment of community, service and caring that is deeply appreciated by our membership.
Working for people living with a life-threatening illness is a highly rewarding experience: a gift and an opportunity. Many of our volunteers have been with us for more than five years of continuous service.
Making a difference might not take as much time as you think. There are many opportunities to put individual talents to use. Some volunteer roles require a regular weekly commitment while others require only a few hours during special event season.
Friends For Life volunteers work primarily in these areas:
- Program Facilitation: Certified professionals facilitate all of our programs by donating their time and expertise. We are continually recruiting program facilitators and are particularly in need of Yoga Teachers, Massage Therapists, reflexologists, Shiatsu practitioners, counsellors and many other healing modalities.
- Hosting: Help welcome our members and ensure a safe and comfortable atmosphere at our wellness centre. This is a commitment that requires four hours per week. Shifts are available to suit all schedules.
- Nutritional and Social Support: Join the brunch crew on Mondays and Wednesdays – servers and dishwashers especially needed. Or bring your own crew and create a beautiful meal for our “Sunday Dinner With Friends ” to 20 members. A perfect opportunity for team building and special occasions.
- Home Team: Home Team volunteers offer in-home support to people living with life-threatening illnesses by providing practical and emotional support through companionship, shopping, errands, light meal preparation, transportation and medical accompaniment. Time commitment: 2-4 hours/week.
- Specialized Committee Work: Bring your professional skills to bear in some of our core work of resource development, donor relations, marketing and communications.
- Fundraising and Special Events: Hands-on work at our many high-profile fundraising events utilizing all kinds of skills including donation solicitation, art sales, reception, ticket sales, distribution of posters, and drivers.
